How to Fix MTP USB Device Driver Problem in Windows 7

I just bought a new mobile phone “Sony Xperia S” a few months ago. Tonight this was my first time tried to connect my mobile phone to my computer. Under normal conditions, the USB device should be recognized while it is plugged in and instantly mounted on my computer, but the message told me that MTP USB device driver was not successfully installed.

My computer and itunes would not recognize my iphone 4. Spent time messing around on the apple site and could not get it fixed. Thanks for the info. I performed step 1 and the fix was in.

  • Thank you very much, after spending most of the day trying to “introduce” my laptop to its new friend, Sony Xperia, finally got them together. Had even been on Sony’s own site, no help at all. Tried other sites and even their experts hadn’t a clue. Then I came across you lovely people and all fixed in around 10 mins. If I;d known before, I would have come here first and saved 4 hours of my life. Dont normally leave comments but youse guys deserve the praise

  • I just went through a couple of days beating my head against a wall, trying to get my Samsung Galaxy SIII to talk to my PC with no luck.
I downloaded all manner of fixes, drivers etc and still no luck.
I then tried connecting to my laptop. Success!
The difference was a PC running Windows 7 Ultimate (doesn’t work) and Windows 7 Home Premium (works great!)

  • While installing manually works, once the PC is re-booted the problem is there again. I believe that the PC is not initiallising MTP USB at boot-time. Any suggestions?
